👋 Hello everyone!
The weather has been cold and lovely in Austin, so we’ve been taking lots of coffee walks, grocery walks, and even happy hour walks. We’ve made it a goal to get back to our favorite thing of sitting at the bar. It’s just a more comfy spot for us - we don’t feel rushed or like we need to order a full meal, the service is usually better, and we love chatting with bartenders. We started with happy hour at Veracruz, where I had a (huge) delicious cantaloupe agua fresca and Justin had a michelada made with a non-alcoholic beer. It was so much fun! We’re planning on more Friday happy hours to check out local mocktail situations. I’ll report back.
What have you been up to? I’ve been…
Adopting Phrases
“Right now.” We really like adding this caveat to whatever we’re sharing. Examples: Right now, I’m really into BTS. Right now, I’m just not reading the news. Right now, I’m not eating super healthy, because I’m trying to clear out our pantry items. Right now, I’m not a fan of heavy metal. BUT - all of this could change, and I am open to it!
“I’m not familiar with that.” When someone says, “you know XYZ?” and it seems obvious I should know XYZ, but I do not, in fact, know XYZ, I prefer to say, “I’m not familiar with that,” rather than pretending to know XYZ. So if you said, “you know Bluey?” I would say, “I’m not familiar with Bluey. What is a Bluey.” I’d rather not nod my head and let you assume I know what this thing is, because I do not, and I will not understand your comments or jokes, and I’m not great at fake laughing.
“I really don’t know enough about it to have a strong opinion.” If you try to draw me into an argument, or into agreement with you on some controversial topic that everyone has opinions on, but that I do not, in fact, have a lot of real data on, I’d prefer to say this.
Enjoying Saturdates
On Saturday mornings, we walk down to Kerbey Lane for breakfast and chatting. We eat pancakes and make plans and review our wins and voice our gratitudes and let each other know what we need that week and talk about money and travel and family and friends and work and home. It’s my favorite part of the weekend.
Screenshotting things
Apparently I take a LOT of screenshots. I just.. like to save things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That’s it! Thank you for reading—hit reply and tell me what you’re up to.
