👋 Hello everyone!
Just some things I’ve consumed lately…
Eats
One of the orange slices because I thought it tasted “too flowery.” Half of the pasta. Cleaned my plate.
Books
The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: A Novel - We adored Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, so I was excited to read another of Zevin’s novels. This one is so lovely and smart and sweet and sad and just perfect for book nerds. “We read to know we’re not alone. We read because we are alone. We read and we are not alone. We are not alone.”
The Little Book of Skin Care - I really liked this one! I liked how upbeat the writing was, and how there were specific details, brand recs, step-by-step instructions, etc. The takeaway, screen-grabbed from the book:
Plus 62% of Rules of Civility (savoring it), 22% of The Book of Delights (good so far), still holding on about half of Children of Time (I keep forgetting about it).
International magazines on Libby: Marie Claire Ideés, Les Ideés de ma Maison, kiitos, and frankie.
Links
What’s Hiding Inside Those Moody Kitchen Cabinets - I looooove Anne Helen Petersen and her culture newsletter. This one takes a surprising turn from moody kitchens to tradwives and the patriarchal agenda.
The Secret Code of Pickup Basketball and The Best Pickup Basketball Player in America - which could basically be about Justin and his daily games at the YMCA.
This thread from Derek Guy on the amazing craftsmanship in Japanese clothing brand 45rpm. I had no idea there were such small but important details in well-made clothing.
The 100 Best Books of the 21st Century, a cool interactive guide from the NY Times in which I learned I have read very few “best” books.
How the Broccoli Perm Became the Definitive Zoomer Hairstyle - also called “alpaca teen gym bro hair.” 😂
