👋 Hello everyone!
We went on a road trip! Kind of suddenly! And it was great!
We haven’t traveled much lately, and we just decided to fly to Denver, hang out and eat, rent a car, then drive to Santa Fe, then Marfa, then to see my folks for Thanksgiving. I’m not usually a road trip kinda gal, but I think I have come into my road trip season of life.
We saw friends, ate and drank lovely things, got to prance around in the snow, drove through the mountains, met fun peeps, finished a book together (I read aloud while he drives), spent a day with my family, got to have my mom’s dressing for the first time in years, and came home to a very needy cat who yelled at us for like 15 minutes before she even let us pet her. It was fantastic, and now I’m exhausted.
What have you been up to lately? I’ve been…
🍲 Eating + Drinking
We looooove Death & Co. We may or may not have gone there twice during our short stay in Denver.
We had to pull over on our way out of Denver to deal with rental car things, and we happened to pull over near this amazing pupuseria. The masa! The curtido! the sauce!
One cold night, we waited for nearly an hour to sit at the bar and slurp up bowls of red and green pozole.
Thank you, barista, for making me a vanilla cappuccino. This is my new favorite thing (less milk, still sweet and vanilla-y)!
We loooooved Cart-Driver. It’s a tiny pizza place that also has tinned fish, oysters, amaro spritzes… so good!
More Death & Co, because it’s been a very long time since I’ve had a Vieux Carré.
We happened to visit Mister Oso on their 3rd birthday, so we got $3 margaritas and this amazing Frito pie.
We had a fantastic lunch at Everyday Pizza, where we did not eat pizza. It’s 100% plant-based, but in that lovely way where it’s just seriously good food that just happens to be vegan.
We had a 12-course tasting menu at Koko Ni, which Justin designs for. It was outstanding. This was the sunchokes and caviar.
The chef is currently obsessed with ice lettuce; we got this little extra course of unagi ssam.
The fumet (a creamy fish broth) was poured onto our fish with this amazing little gravy boat.
Beets and things - seriously, every dish was this beautiful and delicious.
My favorite thing about New Mexico: the food! We shared chiles rellenos Xmas-style (both red and green chile), pozole, and sopaipillas at La Choza.
We also stopped by Paper Dosa again - we loooooove dosas!
Brunch in Marfa at The Sentinel was pancakes and barbacoa tacos. So good.
Another Marfa brunch at Do Your Thing - toast with butter and Maldon salt, toast with cinnamon-sugar, and a jammy egg.
🚗 Visiting
We saw a lot of lovely things on our drive, but being in this heavy snow in Denver was SO wonderful.
Our hotel in Santa Fe was old and quirky, and had this amazing little vignette…
And this gorgeous bar, which was full of hipsters every evening!
The drive to Marfa was full of oooohs and aaahs. We were never interested in Marfa (J grew up on west TX so it seems like nothing special), but it was nice to have good food and drink in such a relaxed, slow town.

That’s it! Thank you for reading—hit reply and tell me what you’re up to.
